Big Band

The Big Band is offered to all wind instrumentalists prior to the school day starting. This "Zero Mod" course focuses on the performance of standard jazz charts and how to improv. Because this course helps to teach methods of improvisation, there is no requirement that a student already have such experience before joining! The class will teach how to start with simple rhythmic motifs and progress to teaching how to improvise melodic lines.

The Big Band, due to the nature of the music performed, is composed of students who play (or are willing to learn) the:

  • Alto Saxophone

  • Tenor Saxophone

  • Baritone Saxophone

  • Trumpet

  • Trombone

  • Bass Guitar

  • Drum Set

  • Piano

  • Guitar

The Big Band performs at the Winter and Spring concerts.
